Especially when you live on the water . You have to consider the proximity of the bulkhead, supporting tie rods and bulkhead anchors. Before buying a pool I spent the time digging a few test holes and

 carefully marked the location and depth of any obstacles. I then decided on a fiberglass pool and picked one that would fit in the confined space of my backyard. Once installed we will always keep water in the pool. Otherwise at a storm high tide the pool would become a boat and float itself out of the hole. The following photos show the installation process. Note that we just had the bulkhead redone so the backyard was already dug up. Once the pool was in place I used trex plastic wood to build a deck around the pool. With a little landscaping, sod and some hard work the backyard quickly cam back into shape. Its not the kind of job you will want to do more than once so do your homework first and make sure you get the swimming pool that works not only for you backyard landscaping design but also for you wallet and families swimming needs.
