According to the NY State tourism website The Seaway Trail and
Thousand Islands Area, is a nationally recognized Scenic Byway,
parallels Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St.
Lawrence River. It will take you from Niagara Falls to the
Eisenhower Locks. Along the way are a number of great
attractions.
At the western
end is Lewiston, where you can visit Artpark, the only state
park devoted to the arts. Travel along the shores of the Niagara
River to where it flows into Lake Ontario and you'll find the
historic Old Fort Niagara. Next, pass through picturesque
harbors, lakeside villages and farm markets as you make your way
to Rochester, home of George Eastman House and International
Museum of Photography and Film, and Strong Museum.
Follow the Lake
Ontario shoreline northward to enjoy the beauty of the fragile
barrier beaches, dunes, lagoons and freshwater marshes in the
Sandy Pond area. Farther north, Sackets Harbor is home to an
impressive brace of historic places. A drive along the St.
Lawrence River leads you to Clayton where you can hop aboard a
tour boat and explore the beautiful Thousand Islands. Nearby is
Alexandria Bay, famous for its large resorts and fine
restaurants and its signature attraction, the romantic and
tragic Boldt Castle.

Region is an international tourism destination, encompassing
communities on both sides of the US and Canada border along the
St. Lawrence River and the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. The
region takes its name from the more than 1000 islands that dot
the lake and river along this international waterway. The region
extends from Kingson to Cornwall on the Canadian side, and from
Oswego to Massena on the US side, reaching inland to the
foothills of the Adirondack mountains to embrace the communities
that are west and north of the Adirondack Park, and the four NY
Counties of Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence
